Alpha Tau Omega’s Epsilon Delta Chapter at North Dakota State University was founded in 1920, making it one of the oldest and most established fraternities on the NDSU campus. Rooted in ATO’s national mission of brotherhood, leadership, and character—first established in 1865 at the Virginia Military Institute—the chapter quickly became a prominent presence in student life.
Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Epsilon Delta (founded 1931) built a strong foundation centered on scholarship, campus leadership, and a close-knit brotherhood. Despite the challenges of the Great Depression, the chapter remained active and resilient. During the 1940s, many members left to serve in World War II, but the fraternity was revitalized by returning veterans who brought renewed energy and growth.
The post-war decades marked a period of expanding membership and influence. During the 1950s through the 1970s, the chapter became well known for its involvement in student government, athletics, and social events. Traditions that strengthened alumni ties and chapter identity began to take shape. In these years, alumni support quietly grew into what would eventually become a formalized housing and advisory structure.
From the 1980s through the early 2000s, Epsilon Delta focused on modernization—updating bylaws, strengthening relations with the university, improving academic standards, and investing in the chapter’s physical and organizational infrastructure. Philanthropy and community service became increasingly central to the chapter’s mission, reflecting national fraternity priorities and evolving campus expectations.
The 2010s marked a new era of alumni engagement and structural development. The Epsilon Delta Housing Association—often referred to as the House Corporation—emerged as an organized body responsible for long-term property planning, financial stewardship, and alumni communication. Recruitment, leadership development, and scholarship performance strengthened significantly.
In the 2020s, Epsilon Delta celebrated more than a century at NDSU. This period has focused heavily on governance modernization, alumni relations, and long-term sustainability—ensuring the chapter remains strong for decades to come. Today, Epsilon Delta continues to emphasize leadership, academic excellence, service, and a lifelong commitment to brotherhood.
Over its 100+ years, ATO Epsilon Delta has become more than just a fraternity chapter—it is an enduring community of men whose shared experiences connect generations of students and alumni throughout North Dakota and beyond.
